Here you will find historic towns such as Appleby-in-Westmorland and delightful villages such as Kirkoswald, Morland or Langwathby, salmon and trout fishing on the River Eden and its tributaries, a great deal of history - and the most delightful countryside.
Armathwaite
Armathwaite is a pleasant Cumbrian village with the River Eden flowing through it, and renowned for its salmon fishing and superb walks along the river. Close to the historic market towns of Penrith and Carlisle it offers an excellent base to explore the Eden Valley and Lake District. Our small village has a number of pubs and resturants to choose from. Pictured here is Armathwaite Bridge which connects the village accross the river Eden.

Armathwaite Weir and Mill House
Just south of Armathwaite, right beside the river Eden, there are five carvings of these remarkable faces carved in the sandstone cliff.
Castlerigg Stone Circle is one of the most visually impressive prehistoric monuments in Britain, and is the most visited stone circle in Cumbria. Every year thousands of people visit it to look, photograph, draw and wonder why and when and by whom it was built. The stone circle is on the level top of a low hill with views across to Skiddaw, Blencathra and Lonscale Fell.
Settle - Carlisle Railway
The famous Settle to Carlisle railway runs through the heart of Eden, with stations at Armathwaite, Lazonby, Langwathby, Appleby and Kirkby Stephen. Steam trains occasionally travel along this line.
